Craftybase is a well-established product with a genuine community following among craft sellers and handmade business owners. If you are currently using Craftybase and it is working for you, there may be no reason to switch.
This page is for people who are evaluating both products, who are hitting the limits of Craftybase, or who want to understand what the differences actually are before making a decision.
What Craftybase does well
Built specifically for craft businesses
Craftybase uses the right vocabulary - recipes, materials, batches - rather than manufacturing jargon. If you make jewellery or soap, the tool speaks your language.
Etsy and Shopify integrations
Sales from connected platforms are automatically imported, which saves manual entry and keeps your material usage figures more accurate.
Established community
Craftybase has been around since 2012 and has a large, active user community. There is plenty of peer advice, tutorials, and shared experience to draw on.
Simple to start
Getting started with Craftybase is straightforward. If you want a cloud-based tool with a browser interface and automatic saving, it delivers that cleanly.
Where Craftybase falls short
No purchase orders
Craftybase has no purchase order workflow. You cannot raise a PO to a supplier, track what is on order vs. received, or compare actual pricing to expected pricing. Once you are ordering from suppliers regularly, this gap starts to matter.
Production scheduling locked behind a higher tier
Craftybase does offer production scheduling - but only from their Business tier at $166/month billed annually. At the Studio tier most users start on ($41/mo), you have recipe costing and sales imports but no structured production workflow. With Kitted, production orders are included at the base price.
No production order workflow
Craftybase records what you have made, but has no structured production order process: no picking list, no in-progress tracking, no completed vs. planned visibility. For businesses with any real production volume or more than one person involved, this is a real limitation.
Cloud-only - your data lives on their servers
Craftybase is entirely cloud-based. Your recipes, supplier costs, and production history are held on their cloud servers. For UK and EU businesses, this creates a data residency question worth considering.
The subscription never stops
Craftybase is priced in USD. Their entry plan (Pro) is $20/month billed annually; their most popular plan for Etsy and Shopify sellers (Studio) is $41/month. That compounds. Studio alone costs around $2,450 over five years - roughly £1,900 at current exchange rates - and pricing tends to drift upward. For software with broadly stable capability, that is a substantial ongoing commitment.
