Licence Activation

Overview

Kitted includes a 30-day free trial. When the trial ends, a valid licence key is required to continue using the application. Licences are purchased from kitted.site and delivered by email.

Each licence key has a machine limit - the number of machines that can be simultaneously activated with that key. A standard single-user licence can be active on up to 3 machines at a time.

Licence Statuses

StatusMeaning
TrialNo key activated; within the 30-day trial window. Full functionality is available.
Trial expiringTrial has 7 or fewer days remaining.
ActiveA valid key is activated and the licence server has confirmed it within the last 7 days.
GraceA key is activated but the last check-in with the licence server failed (e.g. no internet). The application remains fully functional for up to 14 days from the last successful check-in.
ExpiredThe trial has ended and no valid licence key is activated. The application enters a read-only/restricted mode.
RevokedThe key has been revoked or the machine binding was removed remotely.

Activating Online

  1. Open Settings → Licence.
  2. The current licence status is displayed at the top of the card.
  3. Paste your licence key into the Licence key field.
  4. Click Activate.

Kitted will contact the licence server, verify the key, and bind it to this machine. On success, the status changes to Active.

Activation requires an internet connection. Once activated, Kitted checks in with the licence server approximately once per week. If check-ins fail (e.g. no internet), the licence remains active for a 14-day grace period before access is restricted.

Moving to a New Machine

Each key has a fixed number of simultaneous machine activations. To activate on a new machine when you are at the limit, you first need to release a seat from an existing machine:

  1. On the machine you want to deactivate, open Settings → Licence.
  2. Click Deactivate. Kitted notifies the licence server and the seat is released immediately.
  3. On the new machine, open Settings → Licence and activate with the same key.

If you cannot access the old machine (e.g. it was destroyed or lost), contact support at [email protected] to release the seat manually.

Check-In and Offline Use

Kitted does not require a permanent internet connection. After a successful activation:

  • The app checks in with the licence server roughly every 7 days in the background.
  • If a check-in fails, the licence enters Grace status and the app continues operating normally.
  • If check-ins keep failing for more than 14 days, the licence is treated as expired.

For environments with no internet access, contact support to discuss offline licensing options.

Troubleshooting

“Could not reach licence server” The activation or check-in request failed with a network error. Check your internet connection and try again. If your network uses a proxy or firewall, ensure outbound HTTPS traffic to the licence server is permitted.

“Key not found” or “Invalid key” Double-check the key you copied from your purchase confirmation email. Keys are case-sensitive. If the problem persists, contact support.

“Machine limit reached” All available activation seats for this key are in use. Deactivate the key on one of the other machines (see Moving to a New Machine) or contact support.

“Key has been revoked” The key is no longer valid. Contact support for assistance.
